Plastic Free July is an initiative of the Plastic Free foundation. This initiative allows individuals to work toward their goal of a world free of plastic waste. Started more than a decade ago, and year-on-year the results have been phenomenal.
The main aim of this global movement is to reduce plastic pollution. In turn, our environment, the ocean and the communities we live in can be cleaner. There are many ways individuals can partake in #PlasticFreeJuly:
- Choosing to refuse single-use plastics: Join millions of other individuals around the world and reduce your plastic waste at home, the office or even at a local eatery. You can pledge to take part in this challenge here and share your weekly tips & tricks with other participants.

Here are some interesting statistics about the participants of Plastic Free July: Their household waste is reduced & recycled by 15kg per person per year resulting in 3.5% less waste.
- Across the globe, they have reduced 2.1 billion tonnes of waste and recycling including the plastic consumption of 300 million kgs.
- A massive 86% of participants made changes that have become a way of life.
- Since its inception, Plastic Free July has reduced global demand by 2.3% of all bottled water, 3.1% of all fruit and vegetable packaging, and 4.0% of all plastic straws.
The reality is that every bit you do makes an active difference for the environment, so whether you are ditching a takeaway coffee cup by bringing a reusable or finding plastic-free alternatives when doing grocery shopping, your choice added to the vision of seeing the world free of plastic waste.
